What's New in Visual Time Sheet v4.0?

Visual Time Sheet version 4.0 introduces a major new feature, user groups, to help work group Administrators reduce the number of Clients, Projects, Categories and Activities that users have to work with. User groups also simplify reporting and exporting, by allowing groups of users to be more easily and reliably selected.

Note: User groups only apply if Visual Time Sheet is being used in a work group configuration. If you are a stand-alone user of the software, you won't see user groups in the application and your experience of Visual Time Sheet won't change.

What is a user group?

A user group is a collection of work group users, created by someone who is an Administrator for Visual Time Sheet. The Administrator gives the user group a name and then places one or more users in it. User groups are maintained on a new tab in the Setup form.

Assigning user groups to Clients, Projects, Categories or Activities

User groups can be assigned to Clients, Projects, Categories or Activities, alone or in combination. Any of these can also be left as available to "All Users". Visual Time Sheet considers the combination of user group memberships to determine what Clients, Projects, Categories and Activities a user can see for creating time entries.

User groups and reporting/exporting

In previous versions of Visual Time Sheet, one or more individual users could be selected for reports or exports. In version 4.0, this functionality has been extended and user groups can also be used for this purpose.

Other Improvements

In addition to the new user group features, Visual Time Sheet 4.0 also provides a more consistent view of Clients and Projects when Export Formats are being created and maintained on the Setup form, and new copy functionality on a right mouse-click in the search window of the Main form.
